About Little Flower College(Autonomous)
Little Flower College (Autonomous), Guruvayur, founded in 1955 by the Assisi Province Trust, was established to provide inclusive and accessible education for women in a region where such opportunities were scarce. Initially focused on primary and secondary education, it later evolved into a higher education institution affiliated with the University of Calicut. Located at the cultural crossroads of Thrissur, Malappuram, and Palakkad, the college has become a leading women’s institution with around 2000 students, offering 17 UG and 9 PG programmes, including vocational courses and Research centres. The college emphasizes holistic education through value-based learning, spiritual grounding, and academic excellence. It supports skill development through certificate courses, 65 active student clubs, and government initiatives like Walk with the Scholar and the Additional Skill Acquisition Programme. The institution promotes a blend of traditional and digital pedagogy, with a strong focus on research, innovation, and faculty development. The campus nurtures talent through incubation centres, experiential learning, and national exposure initiatives such as the Study in India programme. With a vibrant, eco-friendly campus and a commitment to women’s empowerment, Little Flower College continues to be a catalyst for social and educational transformation in the region.
About the Department
The Department of Chemistry was initially affiliated with the University of Kerala in 1963 and was later integrated into the University of Calicut in 1968. Since its inception, the department has consistently achieved academic excellence, with students earning numerous accolades over the years. Emphasizing dedication, resilience, and innovation, the department focuses on equipping students to address contemporary challenges. A postgraduate program in Pure Chemistry has been offered since 2012. Faculty members actively engage in delivering extension lectures in schools and local institutions. The department has also undertaken several community development initiatives, reflecting its commitment to social responsibility. All activities are guided by LF values, with a strong emphasis on eco-friendliness and societal engagement. Co-curricular and extension programs are designed to promote holistic development. Certificate courses are offered to enhance students’ academic profiles alongside their regular curriculum. Currently, the department comprises eight faculty members, including five on an ad-hoc basis.
